Cookie Policy

What cookies and similar technologies we use on SafariBookNow, and how you can control them.

Last updated: 12 June 2026

The short version: We use a small number of cookies. Some are essential for the site to work (you can’t turn these off). Others help us understand how the site is used (analytics) or measure ad performance (marketing). You can accept or reject the optional ones via the banner shown on your first visit, or by changing your browser settings at any time.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit. It lets the site remember things about your visit — like your search filters, whether you’ve seen a banner before, or your language preference. We also use similar technologies (local storage, pixels) which we collectively refer to as “cookies” in this policy.

2. Categories of cookies we use

2.1 Strictly necessary cookies and preferences

These are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They are usually set in response to actions you take, like submitting a search or picking a language. They don’t store anything that identifies you personally.

  • sbn_consent — Stores your cookie consent choice so we don’t show the banner on every page. Expires after 12 months.
  • googtrans — Stores the language you selected via our header language picker so the site continues to be translated on the next page or visit. Set by the Google Translate widget. Expires after 12 months.
  • Booking session — Temporary state used by the Reservaroo booking widget while you complete a booking. Expires when you close the tab.

We also store the following non-cookie preferences in your browser’s local storage (not transmitted to any server):

  • sbn_currency — The currency you selected via the header picker, so prices display the same way on return visits.
  • sbn_geo_country — A cached country code from our geo-detect API, used to default the currency to your local one on first visit.
  • sbn_lang — The language you picked, used to restore the picker label instantly on page load.

2.2 Analytics cookies (optional)

These help us understand how visitors use the site — which lodges are most viewed, where users drop off in the search flow, and which pages need improving. The data is aggregated; we can’t identify you individually.

  • _ga, _ga_* — Set by Google Analytics 4 to distinguish users and sessions. Expires after up to 2 years.

2.3 Marketing cookies (optional)

These let us measure the performance of advertising campaigns and show you relevant ads on other sites. They’re set by our advertising partners (Google, Meta) when you accept marketing cookies.

  • _gcl_* — Set by Google Ads to attribute conversions and measure campaign effectiveness.
  • _fbp — Set by Meta Pixel to attribute conversions and build retargeting audiences.

3. Third-party cookies and services

Some cookies are set by third parties we’ve chosen to work with:

  • Google Analytics — usage measurement (Google Privacy Policy).
  • Google Ads — campaign measurement (Google Privacy Policy).
  • Meta Pixel — campaign measurement on Facebook and Instagram (Meta Cookies Policy).
  • Reservaroo — booking engine (also operated by our parent company, BookingCo).
  • Google Translate — on-demand machine translation when you pick a non-English language (Google Privacy Policy).
  • Brevo (Sendinblue) — newsletter platform; only contacted when you submit the newsletter form (Brevo Privacy Policy).

4. How to control cookies

4.1 Via our cookie banner

On your first visit you’ll see a cookie banner where you can “Accept all”, “Reject non-essential” or “Customise”. Your choice is saved for 12 months. To change it, clear your browser’s site data for safaribooknow.com and reload the page — the banner will reappear.

4.2 Via your browser

You can also control cookies through your browser’s settings. Note that blocking all cookies may break parts of the site that depend on strictly necessary cookies.

4.3 Opt-out of analytics

You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent your usage data from being sent to Google Analytics, even if you’ve previously consented.

5. Do Not Track

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no universally agreed standard for how websites should respond, so we don’t currently change our behaviour based on this signal. Use the cookie banner or your browser settings instead.

6. Changes to this policy

When we add or remove cookies, we update this page. Significant changes will be re-prompted via the cookie banner. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
