Fort House

Fort House is a sole-use safari villa on Kwandwe Private Game Reserve — a four-bedroom villa in a private setting with sweeping views of the Great Fish River valley. The design combines an exclusive safari lodge with the conveniences of a modern home, and multiple relaxation and entertainment areas give your group space to connect or carve out quiet time. Your party has the entire villa for the duration of your stay, with your own ranger, tracker, chef, butler and game-viewing vehicle. Sleeps up to eight.

Sole-use of the entire villa, three meals daily, morning and evening Big 5 game drives in your private vehicle with your own ranger and tracker, bush / nature walks (subject to availability), selected house beverages, laundry, emergency medical evacuation insurance, transfers to and from the lodge airstrip, complimentary child-minding, and Wi-Fi throughout. Premium drinks, spa treatments and helicopter charters are billed separately.

Yes — children of all ages are welcome at Fort House. The villa includes complimentary child-minding so adults can enjoy game drives or downtime when needed. With sole-use of the villa and your own ranger and vehicle, families have full flexibility on drive timing, meal schedules and activities to suit younger guests.

Kwandwe is approximately 160 km (1h45m drive) from Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), or 185 km (2 hr) from East London. The reserve has its own airstrip with a daily scheduled flight from Port Elizabeth — the fastest option for groups. Transfers to and from the lodge airstrip are included in the Fort House rate. After checking in at Heatherton Towers reception, you will be transferred to Fort House by reserve vehicle (15 to 30 minutes).

Fort House is priced for sole-use of the entire villa. Whether you have 2, 4, 6, or 8 guests, the per-villa rate is the same. The displayed per-person rate assumes maximum occupancy of eight — the villa rate stays fixed regardless of party size.

Morning and evening Big 5 game drives in your private 4x4 with your own ranger and tracker — early-morning drives at dawn over the Great Fish River, late-afternoon drives that often include night-drive sightings of aardvark, aardwolf, bat-eared fox and porcupine. Interpretive bush walks with an armed ranger reveal the smaller wonders — lichen, mosses, ferns, raptor nests, and close encounters with antelope, giraffe, warthog, and occasionally buffalo. Rhino tracking and conservation experiences are available on request. Mountain biking and star bed sleep-outs can be booked separately.
