About the lodge

Perched above the Bushman's River valley

Set against a cliff above the Bushman’s River valley in the malaria-free area of Amakhala Game Reserve, Woodbury is a family-run lodge where stone-and-thatch suites open onto private decks with panoramic views of the plains.

All lodges are air-conditioned with en-suite bathrooms, connected by stone walkways tucked into indigenous trees. Two game drives are included every night of your stay, and guests take high tea with homemade breads on the pool deck overlooking the reserve.

When to go

Best time to visit

Amakhala is a year-round malaria-free reserve, but the dry winter months offer the best game viewing as animals gather around remaining water sources. Summer brings lush landscapes, newborn wildlife, and warmer evenings.

Best time to go

May – September

Dry season · Winter
  • Animals gather around water sources — easier to spot
  • Thinner bush means better visibility on drives
  • Cold mornings and evenings — pack layers
  • Minimal rainfall and mosquitoes
High season

October – March

Wet season · Summer
  • Lush green landscapes and dramatic skies
  • Newborn animals and migratory birds arrive
  • Warm days (25–32°C) and mild evenings
